Board
VFMC has an independent Board of Directors whose members are appointed by the Governor in Council. The Treasurer appoints the Chairman and Deputy Chairman. The Board of Directors is responsible for the management of the affairs of the Corporation. In performing this role, the Board is responsible for strategic planning, the annual budget, investment policy, risk management procedures, compliance controls and the effective monitoring of client mandates and management.
To affect the efficient performance of these duties the Board is assisted by the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee and the Nomination Remuneration Committee.
 | Mr John Fraser Chairman – Appointed June 2009 John Fraser has been Chairman and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management since December 2001. UBS Global Asset Management is one of the four business divisions of UBS – the others being Wealth Management & Swiss Bank, Wealth Management Americas and the Investment Bank. He is also a member of the UBS Group Executive Board and Chairman of UBS Saudi Arabia. Prior to joining UBS and its predecessor organisations in 1993, John served for over 20 years with the Australian Treasury including appointment as Deputy Secretary (Economic) from 1990-1993 and postings at the International Monetary Fund (1978-80) and as Minister (Economic) at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC (1985-88). read more | |  | Ms Melda Donnelly Deputy Chair – Appointed December 2008 Director - Appointed May 2006 Ms Donnelly is the Founder and Chairman of the Centre for Investor Education. Current directorships include Chairman of Hochma Development Fund. She has held numerous executive positions within the ANZ Banking Group including Managing Director of ANZ Trustees and Deputy Managing Director of ANZ Funds Management. She has also been Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Investment Corporation, and Chairman of the Board of Plum Financial Services Nominees and North Western Health Care Network. read more |
 | Mr Ian Court Chairman Nomination Remuneration Committee Director – Appointed May 2006 Mr Court has extensive experience as a senior executive and non-executive in a diverse range of companies and industry sectors. He currently holds non-executive director positions with SSSR Holdings Pty Ltd, Slater and Gordon Ltd, Epic Energy Holdings Pty Ltd (Chair of audit and risk committee) and is Chair of ACTU Member Connect Pty Ltd. He is also Chair of the Industry Funds Management Investor Advisory Board. He has previously held senior executive positions in funds management and superannuation including CEO of Development Australia Fund Management Ltd and Executive Chair of CBus with responsibility for the investment portfolio, from 1992-1998. read more | |  | Mr Jack Diamond Director – Appointed May 2006 Mr Diamond has over 20 years experience in the funds management industry. He is a director of Viento Group Limited, IFI Pty Ltd (AUSFUND), SMI Pty Ltd and Managing Director of Diamond Consulting (Vic) Pty Ltd. Previous directorships include four Ansett Airline Superannuation Funds, Super Member Home Loans, Government Superannuation Office (GSO) and Emergency Services Superannuation Scheme since the merger with GSO in December 2005. |
 | Mr Charles Donnelly Director Appointed July 2008 Mr Donnelly was appointed the General Secretary of the National Union of Workers (NUW) in April 2004 where he has served for over 20 years in various senior roles. He oversees the proper administration of the NUW and ensures compliance with regulations as well as providing support to all branches and dealings with large employers of NUW industries. Mr Donnelly is responsible for NUW's role in major national campaigns. read more | |  | Mr Alan Hawkes Director – Appointed July 2004. Chairman of Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee. Appointed August 2006 Mr Hawkes has held executive positions in the Department of Treasury and Finance and in National Australia Bank in the Bank’s investment banking and superannuation businesses. Mr Hawkes is also a Director of Gippsland and Southern Rural Water Corporation and Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria. |
 | Mr Grant Hehir Director Appointed October 2009 Grant has extensive experience in strategic financial management and the provision of fiscal, economic social policy advice to both the Victorian and Commonwealth governments. Grant was the Secretary of the Victorian Department of Education and Training from 2003 before being appointed as Secretary of DTF in June 2005. In this role, he was responsible for advising on and delivering a range of education and training reform initiatives. read more | |  | Mrs Catherine Walter AM, LLB (Hons), LLM, MBA Director Appointed August 2009 Mrs Walter is a Solicitor and Company Director. She practised law for 20 years and was Managing Partner of one of the major law firms in Melbourne and thereafter a Commissioner for the City of Melbourne. Mrs Walter has chaired and participated in government think tanks in the areas of education, the Arts and corporate and financial regulation. For nearly 20 years she has been a non-executive director on Boards spanning the private sector, not-for-profit and government sectors and across a range of industries: resources and energy, funds management, banking, insurance, superannuation, telecoms, education, the Arts and health services. read more |

Director Appointed May 2008 Ms Williams has over 20 years senior management and Board level experience in the corporate and government sectors specialising in investment management, corporate advisory and equity fundraising. Ms Williams was formerly a Director of NM Rothschild and Sons (Australia) Limited, Director of Strategy and Planning for Ansett Australia Holdings Limited and a Vice President at JP Morgan Australia. Ms Williams has also held management positions with Elders Finance Group, Hong Kong Bank of Australia Limited and Citibank NA in London. read more | | | |
